Rikki and Yuling’s cosy industrial-themed flat was inspired by the couple’s common passions of café-hopping and yoga. Their renovation journey was a prelude to their parenting journey. With a little boy, already named Lucas, on the way, the nest is ready and waiting for the new family member. Going by their recollections of the renovation, both journeys have been happy ones.

HomeRenoGuru: How and why did you choose Luova Project Services?
Rikki: We actually spent quite a bit of time looking for an ID. In the process, we shortlisted 15 and we interviewed five. Eventually we decided on Luova, specifically Ming Hui, because he was able to express his opinions well and connected with us.

HomeRenoGuru: What was your design brief to your designer?
Rikki: The design was basically inspired by our two common hobbies, which are yoga and café hopping. A lot of the inspiration came from our favourite cafes and the yoga studio we attend together. The design is basically an industrial feel. The one departure is the colorful feature wall in our master bedroom.
HomeRenoGuru: How did you find the renovation process?
Rikki: Throughout the renovation process, it was quite well executed. Of course there were some hiccups along the way, but Ming Hui was very responsive and he addressed them quite promptly. I think he executed the renovation process really well, and we are very appreciative of that.

HomeRenoGuru: What do you love most about your home?
Yuling: I really like the house – it exceeded my expectations, actually. My favourite part of the house is my walk-in wardrobe and my bedroom. Another part of the house that I really like is the colourful feature wall in the bedroom. We procrastinated over the colours for a long time. There are finally four colours to it.

Rikki: My favourite place is the island counter where I can sit down and have my breakfast or have a drink. Another part of the house that I really like is actually the master bathroom. I elected to have a wet and dry area, and I also wanted to keep the industrial theme within the space.
HomeRenoGuru: Do you have any general advice for homeowners?
Rikki: The advice I have for homeowners who are looking for an ID would be is just take your time to look for the right one, somebody that you’re comfortable with. Don’t rush into it. Don’t sign into any packages that you’re not comfortable with. Always make sure that you read the fine print – that’s the most important thing.
